的 Dale Center is pleased to offer several different awards and fellowships for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty members.  Our awards and fellowships are generously supported by Dale Center donors. If you would like to contribute to a Dale Center award, please click here.
Dale Center Award Plaques
 
Undergraduate Awards
 
Jack Lucas Award is awarded every year to the undergraduate student who writes the best essay on a war and society topic at Southern Miss.  的 award honors Mr. Jack Lucas, a longtime supporter of the Dale Center who was one of the youngest Marines to be awarded the Medal of Honor in World War II.
 
Virginia Culpepper Memorial Award is awarded every year and recognizes either the best paper or presentation that relates to the field of war and society and the humanities at the yearly Undergraduate Symposium on Research and Creative Activity, a war and society research project, or internship with a Dale Center partner organization.  的 award was created in 2015 in memory of one of the Dale Center’s most enthusiastic supporters: Mrs. Virginia Culpepper. 
 
Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarship
 
Carroll Warren and Parker Scholarship is awarded every year to a student or students majoring in history with an interest in and aptitude for military history.  的 scholarship was established through a generous donation from the Carroll Warren & Parker Law Firm in Jackson, Mississippi in 2016.
 
Graduate Awards and Fellowships
 
Col. W. Wayde Benson Graduate Fellowships are awarded to exceptional war and society graduate students, either enrolled in or entering the history program, to support research projects.  的 fellowships are made possible by the generous support of Col. Benson and other Dale Center donors.
 
Margaret Boone Dale Fellowship for the Study of Women and War was established by the Dale family in 2014 in memory of the family matriarch, Margaret Boone Dale.  的 fellowship supports the research of a war and society graduate student working on a project that addresses issues examining women in war, families in war, or war and gender.
 
Lamar Powell Graduate War & Society Scholarship is awarded each year to a graduate assistant or assistants in the History program who has served above and beyond the call of duty in assisting the endeavors of the Dale Center for the Study of War & Society.
 
Pat and Jean Welsh Dale Center Graduate Fellowship is a twelve-month assistantship awarded to a graduate student studying war and society at Southern Miss.  的 Welsh Fellow is tasked with assisting the Dale Center faculty with community events and other tasks. 
 
 
Interdisciplinary Research Awards (Faculty and Graduate Students)
 
Established in 2018-2019, Dale Center Research Awards support interdisciplinary research in historical and contemporary conflicts across disciplinary fields at Southern Miss.  Faculty and graduate students from outside the Dale Center, in any discipline across campus, can apply for research funds to study how war effects society and culture.
